Boxing Day Celebration at White Horse Black Mountain, Sunday December 26, 3-8 pm

Hear ye, Hear ye. Come one, come all! An Old English tradition makes its way to the White Horse Black Mountain (105C Montreat Rd. Black Mountain, NC 28711, 828-669-0816 - Map). All are invited to attend the event which includes live music, food and fellowship.

Despite the name it has nothing to do with fist-fighting. Boxing Day is a holiday in the British Isles, Canada and Australia. The celebration includes giving money and other gifts to those who were needy and/or in service positions. The tradition dates to the Middle Ages when metal boxes were placed outside churches to collect offerings on the Feast of Saint Stephen. In Victorian England workers would collect their "Christmas boxes" from their employers on the 26th in return for reliable service throughout the year.

Though not widely recognized in the US, we see Boxing Day as a way to re-unite with old friends and wind down from the stresses of the Christmas hustle.

Dave Turner and Ginnie Waite will perform along with Whimzik, The Rockefellers and the Robert Swain Group. There is no cover charge, but a suggested donation of $5 is welcomed. All proceeds will go to Jeff Brown, who recently lost his sight.
