A note about Open Mic at White Horse, Black Mountain, NC

Thought I'd write note about White Horse open mic (http://www.whitehorseblackmountain.com/ 105C Montreat Road, Black Mountain, NC 28711, 828-669-0816) and why I'm behind it:

1 - As a musician, I have played many open mics locally and in other states. It's a good thing to do on an otherwise off early-in-the-week night for many of us who perform professionally, and it's a rare pleasure indeed as open mics go to play one in a world-class venue like the White Horse where it's all about the music. It's my goal to give my fellow musicians - locally and those traveling through the region on tour - a place to share their music and network and make new friends, and perhaps make a connection that will lead to a paying gig.

2 - I believe it's important for musicians and live music fans to gather frequently and celebrate live music performances and places that present such performances well. I encourage everyone to frequent, whenever possible, the White Horse and every other venue in the greater Asheville area that puts music and art first. With all the talent around here, we need places that present it well.

3 - It's worth it to me to host open mic at White Horse, as I get great enjoyment out of performing on the White Horse's wonderful Yamaha grand piano once a week--a lovely instrument that I love playing--AND I have the pleasure of introducing and then sitting back and listening to other talented performers... I can't think of a better way to spend my Tuesday evenings!

As we move into the warm weather months we'll be doing some new things with open mic. Stay tuned.

In the meantime, I hope you'll join us this Tuesday 3/1 for good music and spirits and a gathering of friends. Signup to play 8pm, music starts 8:45pm (follows Free Irish Jam 6:30-8:30pm).

All the best,

-Dave Turner

P.S. - There will be no open mic Tuesday, March 8, due to another event - so we're here March 1 and back on March 15.
