<a href="http://daveturnermusic.com">Dave Turner
            His songs and stories are inspired by subjects such as empty pockets and starry skies, bourbon, late-night diners, old lovers, Blue Ridge mountains, California dreams, desperation, roadside shrines, the solitude of the road, New York City subway rides, hangovers, unsent letters, adolescent kisses, tattoos, beer joints, bar buddies, staying put and getting away&mdash;just to name a few.

            Noah Stockdale is a singer/songwriter from Asheville, North Carolina. His music aims to lift spirits and inspire joy in each moment. Although his style and influences are far reaching, his work most comfortably fits under the category of Conscious Music: a genre that focuses on the celebration of our common humanity and the exploration of solutions to today's challenges.

            An authentically sincere and contemplative songsmith, Alex Krug re-creates genres with her folk-jazz melodies. Translates straight to your soul through emotive sounds and impassioned vocals. She has a lifetime of exploration in disintegrating musical classifications. Winner of Modaddy&rsquo;s Brown Bag Songwriter Contest. Explores the bounds of songwriting, and encourages you to connect yourself to the music community around you.

            Thanks for supporting original independent live music in Western North Carolina!

Yesterdays (vintage song, obscure recording, free download)

Having just moved I'm discovering in my boxes some old recordings, this one a recording of the oldest song of mine (and a friend) that I still perform, with the lyric by my old friend Doris Reed King (written in the back row of English class at Owen High School in 1978) and the music written by me on the piano in the chapel at Warren Wilson College the same year (yes, I'm that old). It features also Julie Loyd on backing vocal and James Richards on backing vocal and guitar, from a compilation album entitled Live at Karmasonics, Vol. 1. One of the coolest things about this recording is that there are several children in the audience at <a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Karmasonics/120583741286479">Karmasonics, including my own. And you can hear their joyful noises here and there.

Listen and download the track free <a href="http://daveturnermusic.com/yesterdays.cfm">here&nbsp;or click below.

You can also <a href="http://daveturnermusic.com/freedownloads.cfm">download all three of Dave's complete albums free.

Here's a new track by Dave Turner, a song he wrote in 2010, that you can <a href="http://daveturnermusic.com/wired.cfm">download free.

Wired

Words and music written by and performed on piano and vocal by Dave Turner
&copy; 2010 David Dwight Turner BMI

It's 2am, I'm wide awake, can't get you off my mind.
You're deep within, I'll never make it, unless you're by my side.
You ran away, said you can't take it any more, you're tired.
Said you can't change how I was made, the way that I am wired.

But I'll cut these wires and get a soldering iron,
Retrofit my circuit board and re-run all the lines,
Harness all my power to overcome your doubt
And turn back on the love I can't live without.

Television, flipping through the channels, nothing's on.
I'd rather be in bed with you, but I'm on the couch alone.
You put me out and told me of my bullshit you are tired.
Said you can't change how I was made, the way that I am wired.

Lately you'd been coming back, said there had been a spark.
You were falling for me once again, and we made love in the dark.
Before too long I fucked up again, and now you're feeling tired.
Said you can't change how I was made, the way that I am wired.

NYC-based award-winning singer-songwriter Rupert Wates to perform at White Horse Black Mountain March 3
Touring to support his At The Losers&rsquo; Motel album, recorded at Asheville&rsquo;s Echo Mountain; to be accompanied at White Horse by Mike Holstein on bass

NEW YORK (For immediate release: February 1, 2013) &ndash; Award-winning singer-songwriter Rupert Wates (<a href="http://www.rupertwatesmusic.com" target="_new">www.rupertwatesmusic.com), who recorded his most recent album At The Losers&rsquo; Motel at Asheville&rsquo;s Echo Mountain recording studio supported by local talent, will perform with bassist Mike Holstein at 7pm Sunday, March 3, 2013, at <a href="http://www.whitehorseblackmountain.com/" target="_new">White Horse Black Mountain at 105-C Montreat Road in Black Mountain, N.C.

WNC ties
Although Wates is based in New York, he has Western North Carolina ties having completed the Losers&rsquo; Motel album at Asheville&rsquo;s Echo Mountain Recording Studio in just three days in early 2012, and he was joined in the studio for the critically acclaimed project by locals Valorie Miller on backing vocal, Mike Holstein on double bass, Byron Hedgepeth on percussion, Amy Lovinger on violin, and Frankin Keel on cello, and Chris Medrano was the engineer. (Strings were arranged by Toronto-based jazz pianist Bartosz Hadala, whose accomplishments include a Carnegie Hall performance among many others.) Wates worked with Miller concurrently at Echo Mountain on her highly praised Turtle Shell album, and he has toured nationwide with her.

Born in London, a prime figure in American music
Losers&rsquo; Motel has garnered considerable attention among reviewers since its release last year. Mark S. Tucker of Folk and Acoustic Music Exchange (FAME), wrote, &ldquo;I'm not sure which to praise more: Rupert Wates' marvelous lyrics, the spotless music, or that streetside cabaret folk voice of his, a crafted instrument which seduces as it gently reproves. This is one gifted S.O.B., throwing off song after affecting song with what appears to be complete ease. If you're not hip to this guy, you're missing a lot.&rdquo; Tucker considers Wates, who is from London but based in the U.S. since September 2006, to be &ldquo;a prime figure in American music who's just biding his time until he's discovered.&rdquo;

A review of the album by Rootstime calls Losers&rsquo; Motel &ldquo;exceptionally beautiful. From the first number you are unarguably on his side. When Love Came To Stay and Be Near Me hit you in the depths of your being. And as Bird Of Dawn emerges from the speakers, you can't resist accompanying the songsmith on his journey. I can without doubt affirm that this is one of the most beautiful discs I have heard this year. Is it because of the top musicians who accompany the disc, or is it that the arrangements are so modest that it charms one? Is it Wates' voice, fragile at times, his finely tuned and perfectly measured lyrics and his flawless guitar playing that make At The Losers&rsquo; Motel a top disc? I think you will agree that this CD has everything a good disc should have.&rdquo;

The Ectophiles&rsquo; Guide to Good Music calls Losers&rsquo; Motel &ldquo;another solid effort from the ever-reliable Wates. He's written some truly affecting song and gets great support from the band. Fools' Parade is a strong song with a powerful lyric about the follies of humanity. Why I Had to Leave is a reflective song of love lost that gets a lovely treatment. Be Near Me is a warm, comforting song that shows Wates at his best. He's made another fine album.&rdquo;

Extensive U.S. touring, warm receptions and numerous awards
Wates plays between 120 and 150 live shows a year, and he has performed in every state in America to critical acclaim.

&ldquo;[Wates] made us all sit up pop-eyed at what he could do with six strings,&quot; wrote Keith Harrelson, founder of Moonlight on the Mountain in Birmingham, Ala. In Concerts In Your Home reviews, C. Murphy wrote, &ldquo;Our audience was spellbound for the duration of his performance.&rdquo; And Kitchen Sink House Concerts in Arizona said he is &ldquo;a ridiculously talented musician.&rdquo;

He has been a full-time songwriter since 1992 when he signed an exclusive deal with Eaton Music Publishing. He has written songs in all kinds of styles for all kinds of artists. During the 1990s he worked with jazz singer Liz Fletcher, recording the albums Mellowmania and Live in the Park, both released on the Sanctuary label, and Blue Afternoons on Mainstem.

Wayne Slater-Lunsford, writing in Concerts In Your Home reviews, said Rupert is &ldquo;one of those rare artists who leaves an audience better than he found them.&rdquo; And Ryan Moore of AMP The Magazine wrote that he is &ldquo;more compelling, more sympathetic and more emotionally accessible than many other modern performers.&rdquo;

Moving to Paris in 2001, Rupert developed his skills as a singer and performer and formed his own group. In 2005 he recorded the album Sweet or Bitter Wine, his first as a solo artist. The album was released on the Mainstem label in autumn 2005.

Wates&rsquo; music has found a warm reception in America. The Forwardian Arts Society, in describing a recent performance, wrote, &quot;It was as if Mr. Wates was standing at the well of humanity and drawing up the emotions and experiences of mankind to the surface where they could nourish those who partook of them from his vocal and musical instruments.&quot;

Between 2007 and 2011, Rupert has won over 25 songwriting awards.

All five of his solo discs have gained outstanding reviews and continue to be aired on college and mainstream radio all over the world.

In 2010 Wates released Joe&rsquo;s Caf&eacute;, an album of 15 original songs based on true stories, each interpreted by a different vocalist, retelling the stories of ordinary American people. Through them we trace the story of America itself: through two world wars, the Dust Bowl depression, Vietnam and the struggle for Civil Rights, all the way to the present day. Recorded live in the studio in a single weekend, the album's warm sound evokes the welcoming atmosphere of an all-night caf&eacute;, where friends gather to share their stories. Featured virtuoso musicians on the recording include Darol Anger on violin and Michael Manring on bass.

Joe&rsquo;s Caf&eacute; has been presented very successfully at the Fringe Festivals throughout North America including Hamilton (Ontario), Kansas City, Minneapolis, Indianapolis, Victoria (British Columbia) and San Francisco, and in other venues from New York City to the Southeastern United States. The show won Best Music Revue in the San Francisco Fringe Festival.

Audiences everywhere respond to Rupert Wates' brand of melodic art/folk&mdash;haunting songs that ring true. More information, audio and video is available online at <a href="http://www.rupertwatesmusic.com" target="_new">www.rupertwatesmusic.com.

NYC-based award-winning singer-songwriter Rupert Wates to perform at White Horse Black Mountain March 3
Touring to support his At The Losers’ Motel album, recorded at Asheville’s Echo Mountain; to be accompanied at White Horse by Mike Holstein on bass

NEW YORK (For immediate release: February 1, 2013) – Award-winning singer-songwriter Rupert Wates (www.rupertwatesmusic.com), who recorded his most recent album At The Losers’ Motel at Asheville’s Echo Mountain recording studio supported by local talent, will perform with bassist Mike Holstein at 7pm Sunday, March 3, 2013, at White Horse Black Mountain at 105-C Montreat Road in Black Mountain, N.C.

WNC ties
Although Wates is based in New York, he has Western North Carolina ties having completed the Losers’ Motel album at Asheville’s Echo Mountain Recording Studio in just three days in early 2012, and he was joined in the studio for the critically acclaimed project by locals Valorie Miller on backing vocal, Mike Holstein on double bass, Byron Hedgepeth on percussion, Amy Lovinger on violin, and Frankin Keel on cello, and Chris Medrano was the engineer.

Losers’ Motel has garnered considerable attention among reviewers since its release last year. Mark S. Tucker of Folk and Acoustic Music Exchange (FAME), wrote, “I'm not sure which to praise more: Rupert Wates' marvelous lyrics, the spotless music, or that streetside cabaret folk voice of his, a crafted instrument which seduces as it gently reproves. This is one gifted S.O.B., throwing off song after affecting song with what appears to be complete ease. If you're not hip to this guy, you're missing a lot.” Tucker considers Wates, who is from London but based in the U.S. since September 2006, to be “a prime figure in American music who's just biding his time until he's discovered.”

A review of the album by Rootstime calls Losers’ Motel “exceptionally beautiful. From the first number you are unarguably on his side. When Love Came To Stay and Be Near Me hit you in the depths of your being. And as Bird Of Dawn emerges from the speakers, you can't resist accompanying the songsmith on his journey. I can without doubt affirm that this is one of the most beautiful discs I have heard this year. Is it because of the top musicians who accompany the disc, or is it that the arrangements are so modest that it charms one? Is it Wates' voice, fragile at times, his finely tuned and perfectly measured lyrics and his flawless guitar playing that make At The Losers’ Motel a top disc? I think you will agree that this CD has everything a good disc should have.”

The Ectophiles’ Guide to Good Music calls Losers’ Motel “another solid effort from the ever-reliable Wates. He's written some truly affecting song and gets great support from the band. Fools' Parade is a strong song with a powerful lyric about the follies of humanity. Why I Had to Leave is a reflective song of love lost that gets a lovely treatment. Be Near Me is a warm, comforting song that shows Wates at his best. He's made another fine album.”

Extensive U.S. touring, warm receptions and numerous awards
Wates plays between 120 and 150 live shows a year, and he has performed in every state in America to critical acclaim.

“[Wates] made us all sit up pop-eyed at what he could do with six strings," wrote Keith Harrelson, founder of Moonlight on the Mountain in Birmingham, Ala. In Concerts In Your Home reviews, C. Murphy wrote, “Our audience was spellbound for the duration of his performance.” And Kitchen Sink House Concerts in Arizona said he is “a ridiculously talented musician.”
